This episode features Steve Bashore of George Washington’s Mount Vernon Distillery. “The best whiskeys we’ve made have yet to be bottled .”Steve has worked in the museum field for over 30 years and is a miller by trade. Add to that resume being the head distillery at a place where he keeps history alive. Being a distiller using 18th century equipment isn’t easy. He is a problem solver and he has learned to adapt with the equipment that he has. Steve joined Mount Vernon in 2007 as head of the department of historical trades where he oversees the living history element. Steve was there when the first barrel was filled in 2007. With the help of some incredible people the distillery is now producing some much coveted spirits. His stories, experiences and knowledge are fascinating. Steve’s focus on education, pride and the connection to history keeps the spirit of George Washington thriving.
