This episode features ⁠Matt Greif ⁠of the ⁠Distillery of Modern Art⁠.

Matt was working at a distillery in Northern Chicago and he was looking for a change of scenery. After 25 years of distilling in the backdrop of Chicago he was called to go to Atlanta. There was a start up distillery waiting for his talents. Matt has always been about the science of things. Today he gets to incorporate the science and art component at The Distillery of Modern Art. The location houses a rotating art gallery, a high end cocktail bar and an event space.  ⁠Seth Watson⁠ has provided a vision that expresses his love of spirits, his love of events and his love of modern art. All this makes for an artistic approach to craft spirts and a feast for the senses.

Alessandro founded Originals Imports a few years ago. It’s a small house of craft independent spirits. He takes trips to South Italy to discover small producers who are family owned that got and source their own ingredients. He introduces and shares then in the United States. Alessandro shares his love of Italian liquors and spirits that he was provided at very young age. Like so many he was frustrated by what he was finding in the market place. He engaged his palate and his love of the craft to bring these one of a kind craft sprits to the world.

The concept and idea for The Pathfinder was derived from a conversation between the current founders of the brand. “What if a cannabis derived product had a place on the back bar?” Today, the non-alcoholic market is booming. This wonderful concoction all comes together and pays homage to the golden age of cannabis.

This episode features Chris Bower of⁠ Eda Rhyne Distilling Company⁠.

Chris had been looking into doing a distillery for a number of years. He had been working on some home made projects. One day a mutual friend Rett Murphy came to Chris and shared that he’s been looking to create a distillery. Rett has been a farmer for 15 plus years and wanted to stay in agriculture but with something more towards providing the fruits of his labor. The conversation turned towards making Fernet and the relationship was sealed. Chris has a family history about learning about plants and botanicals. The distillery launched in 2017 with the Appalachian Fernet and laying down barrels or Rare Grain Rye Whiskey. They provide these special grains and plants a place to shine and show off their specialness.

Patrick has been a cook for most of his life. He moved up through the ranks and eventually opened his own restaurant. It was his stint in the kitchens where he was introduced to amaro. Over time his love for amaro and Italian spirits grew. in 2016 he set his sights on creating his own vision of these wonderful spirits. On his days off he would experiment with making cocktail bitters, tinctures and fermenting hot sauce. This passion has developed into the magnificent old world Italian spirits that are being produced today.

Bar Convent Brooklyn was back in Industry City for 2023. This years event was expanded to occupy more space. The booths and activations were bigger and even better. BCB is a party where business gets done. 4,500 industry professionals attended over 2 days. There were 198 brands represented and visitors came from 51 countries and 46 states. 475,000 spirit samples were enjoyed.
