This episode features Drew Mayville of Buffalo Trace and Sazerac.

When Drew was originally looking for work he applied to a brewery and a distillery. The distillery turned out to be Seagram’s. In hind sight this was his best move. He began in the distillery lab. After many years of working in different areas he was promoted to the Master Blender. We discuss his role at Buffalo Trace and some of the nuances for being a Master Blender. His first priority is being responsible for the consistency and quality of the spirit that goes into every bottle. Drew is always looking to make a better whiskey with Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace Distillery. Today he’s transitioning into being more of an ambassador and educating people about the products. After the interview, The Master Blender led us through a master class on some of Buffalo Trace’s most coveted expressions. Episode 175 – Sono 1420 America’s Maritime Distillery – Ted Dumbauld

This episode features Ted Dumbauld of Sono 1420 America’s Maritime Distillery.

Ted’s path to distilling originated from the cannabis industry. He had the idea to build a brand at the intersection of cannabis and alcohol. The innovation that he’s brought to the spirits world is a hemp based product. Ted took hemp seed and added it to the mash bill. Sono 1420 was born in 2020. Their location on the Long Island Sound affords them access to the terroir and maritime environment. Their “Threesome” ready to mix cocktail is another amazing creation that sets this craft distillery apart. What is coming out of Norwalk, Conn is so unique and different. We anticipate more wonderful expressions from this young and bold distillery.

Episode 148 – Liberty Pole Spirits Grand Opening

This special episode features JimEllen, Rob and Kevin Hough of Liberty Pole Spirits.

On July 15th Liberty Pole Spirits entered a new chapter in the history of their whiskey distillery. Friends, family and new fans joined the celebration and filled their new campus to capacity. It was an amazing experience to be part of the festivities and tour this state of the art distillery. The crowned jewel is the largest rickhouse in all of Pennsylvania. This expansive structure provides so much room now to fill and age barrels.

The tasting room and bottle shop are full of history which is befitting to the distilled spirits that are being produced. It’s a comfortable space to sit, relax, sip and enjoy the sights, sounds and the conversations all around. The cocktails are amazing. A perfect balanced and well rounded compliment to the base whiskey being used. We got see the production space from the seating area overlooking the distillery itself.

Episode 31 featured Jim and there you can learn about the history and the humble beginnings of Liberty Pole. This episode provides a glimpse into the excitement of opening day, the experiences leading up to it and some never told stories about the beginning of the distillery.

This is certainly a destination that must be on your bucket list.

Episode 108 – Redwood Empire Whiskey – Lauren Patz

This episode features Lauren Patz of Redwood Empire Whiskey.

The story begins not with whiskey but, with wine.  Derek Benham started a wine company over 20 years ago.  He built the brand and sold it in 2013.  He then set his sights on starting a distillery.  White spirits flowed from the still and they began laying down barrels in 2015.  Redwood Empire is located in the heart of Sonoma, California.  Lauren grew up in a wine making family.  Her journey into distilling started with the study of history (Not the history of spirits)  and she learned how to make candy while in Japan.  It was when she was pairing chocolate and spirits that it opened her world to spirits.  Learn more about the amazing whiskeys that Redwood is producing and we are certain that you’re sure to become a huge fan too.  It will be love at first sip.

This episode features Kris Kwant and Sara Stier of Triple Sun Spirits Co.

20 years ago Kris was watching the TV program “How it’s made”, with his father.  The episode featured Sam Adams Brewing.  From watching the program, the home brewing bug took hold of him.  He and his dad purchased a kit and it actually turned out pretty good.  The next adventure was to make a Barley Wine.  The intention for this would be to share with his son when he turned 21.  Kris explains that “making good whiskey starts with making good beer”.  In 2016 Kris embraced the craft spirits movement.  Triple Sun is a cocktail bar that moonlights as a distillery.  They are very hospitality focused.  Enjoy this lively episode where we  discuss history, beer and all things Triple Sun.
