Episode 143 – Seminary Hill Cidery – Stuart Madany

This episode features Stuart Madany of Seminary Hill Cidery.

Doug Doetsch grew up in the Western Catskills. His family goes back five generations. There was a strong desire to start an agricultural project. That’s how Doug and Susan Manning got started with Seminary Hill Cidery. The land was perfect for an apple and pear orchard. Stuart joined the team in October of 2020. Cider began being produced shortly there after his arrival. Stuart shares his journey of cider making. This is an intriguing story of architect turned cider craftsman. We had a wonderful time tasting two of their delicious expressions and learning more about their ciders that they produce.

Episode 134 – Eden Ciders – Eleanor Leger

This episode features Eleanor Leger of Eden Ciders .

It was December 2006 when Eleanor and Albert went to Montreal. They tasted ice cider for the first time. Their reaction was that it was amazing. They thought that they could procduce this ice cider in Vermont. The made their first batch in their basement. Six years after making it and selling to to local restaurants they began to explore what has become Eden Cider. In the beginning cider wasn’t a thing in the United States. It was considered more of a desert wine. They discovered different apple varietals to make a wider array of ciders. Eleanor and Albert have come a long way from their infancy. Today they produce unique, well crafted ciders that are layered in flavor, depth and character. So, why not cider? Pick up a bottle or can and taste for yourself.

This episode features K.C. Kulp, Tim Baker and Brandon Wyatt of The Whip Tavern.

K.C. lost his job as an IT specialist at a major brokerage firm in NYC in 2003.  He decided to purchase a biker bar and turned it into The Whip Tavern. K.C. always had a desire to be in the restaurant business.  He opened the whip in 2005 and today it is a premier destination restaurant.  A quiet little British style country pub with delicious food and a phenomenal beer and cider selection.  The restaurant serves as much locally sourced food as possible.  The atmosphere, the portions, the flavors, the energy and the amazing service all come together to make The Whip a special Gem.  This should most certainly be on your bucket list to visit again and again and again.
