We got to tour Lancaster with Glenn and visit three breweries. What you get to experience is a wonderful education of beer and a guided tasting of three breweries that offer an array of different expressions. Brewery Tours is also a history lesson into the highlighted city and beer itself. Glenn gives us the flavor of the tour and you get to hear a snippet of some of what you can expect. This episode features Jay von Czoernig, Rick von Czoernig, Eric von Czoernig and Michael Froelich of von C Brewing Brewing Company. von C got started as a senior project for Jay while he attended North Eastern University.

This is when he wrote the business plan in 1993.

The von Czoernig family history of brewing goes back to 1860.

The lineage reaches back to Christian Schmidt who founded the largest brewery in Philadelphia.

Finally in 2020 they were ready to put that business plan into action.

Today what is retro is cool.

They brew the OG Pils which is their nod to the Schmidt’s legacy.

This is what helped to make Schmidt’s a household name.

At von C you get to drink brewing history… past , present and future.

We had such an amazing time with the Von C team.

Their story is as captivating as the memorabilia in the brewery.

However, the reason you come is for the incredible beer and lively energy.

This episode features Mike Contreras of 2SP Brewing Company. 2SP was conceived in 2015.

Mike is the director of sales and marketing.

While he was working at Dogfish Head Brewing, the owner of 2 Stones Pub, Mike Stiglitz gave him a call.

He shared that he was thinking about starting a brewery.

He was already filling out his team with Bob Barrar, who at the time was already a highly decorated brewer.

It was an easy decision for Mike to come on board.

The focus has been to build a nice regional brewery that provides local beer for the community that they can be proud of.

Today, 2SP is the 10th largest brewery in PA, providing wonderful, flavourful, complex beer.

This episode features Stephen , Karen and Steve Zolnay of Invertase Brewing Company.

When Stephen was 14 he bought his dad a homebrew kit for Father’s Day. Their first collaboration as father and son was a terrible pale ale that they made on the kitchen stove. That beginning experience got them hooked on making beer together. They graduated into making their own recipes, reading the books and talking shop with fellow homebrewers. They even grew their own hops in the backyard. It wasn’t long before the idea of starting their own brewery was conceived. This is a gem of a brewery that makes exceptional beer. It most certainly needs to be on your brewery bucket list. Just don’t ask Stephen what’s coming up next. The beer will tell him when it is ready.

The idea for a Philly brand was born. His experience in sales and marketing is helping to launch a light beer that is packed with flavor. Kenwood Original is named for the street that Matt lived on for the first 15 years of his life. From the first iteration of the brand they knew they had something special.

This episode features Dave Heller and Mary Heller of Olde Bedford Brewing Company.

Mary purchased Dave a Mr. Beer Kit. The first foray into home brewing was a success. To Mary’s surprise, it quickly developed from a hobby into an addiction to home brew. She thought that this would entertain Dave for a couple of months and he would move on. She had no idea that 7 years later that all of it would turn into a business. Olde Bedford Brewing is their “retirement job”. They even grow their own hops on their ranch. Quickly they developed followers of their beer and the brewery began to blossom from there. Passion drives the grain to glass philosophy. “Join the Whiskey Rebellion… drink beer” is their slogan. We had a tremendous time sitting down with Dave and Mary on the podcast. We learned so much about the history of Bedford, beer and the brewery. Take a side trip off the PA Turnpike and go visit them. You’ll be glad that you did.
